I attended a fantastic workshop on presentation skills, run by Cambridge Hub, held in the Downing College Bar. The workshop was very interactive, with each participant encouraged to immediately put into action the topics covered – this was a really great way to gain more confidence and practice the techniques.
The topics covered were:
- Improving confidence
- How you sound
- How you look
- How to structure what you say
Presentations are something we don’t have many opportunities to do (if any…) during our degree, but are a daily part of working in many companies – so this is a very useful skill to work on. Personally for me the section on confidence was the most helpful, particularly the idea of putting yourself in the audience’s shoes and realising that the worst that could go wrong in most presentations is simply that the audience gets bored and forgets you. Simply by being more confident a presentation can come across much more smoothly and professionally.
The Cambridge Hub runs a series of careers events all year, so I’m definitely planning to check out some of their other workshops.
