The St. Sophia Cathedral is one of the main landmarks in Harbin. Located just off the main shopping street, Central Street, the former Russian Orthodox Cathedral is now a museum about the history of Harbin’s architecture.

The outside of the cathedral is certainly impressive. Strong, brick walls support a huge, green dome while birds nest in the roofs, occasionally flying down to eat crumbs thrown by tourists. In the evening, lights highlight the stunning dome and typical Russian architectural features.
