MaoErShan is a small mountain (hill?) located very close to Harbin and a popular spot for day skip trips. We went with a group of international students for the day, for the bargain price of 200RMB (including transport, ski hire, lift pass, lunch, etc.). If you were travelling independently, there is apparently also a train route between Harbin and MaoErShan.

It was a really fun day out, we skiied up and down the only slope that was open (approximately equivalent to a European blue slope) and played around in the snow. The lunch wasn’t bad, standard canteen-style Chinese food, and the skis/ boots were surprisingly good. Compared to European ski resorts, MaoErShan is little more than two nursery slopes and a chairlift – but for the price it does make a very cheap day or weekend ski trip.
