Guilin has to be one of the prettiest Chinese cities I’ve ever visited – there are trees everywhere, beautiful buildings in a traditional Chinese style, and plenty of rivers. There is even a common Chinese saying 桂林山水甲天下 (Guilin scenery is the best under heaven),  which really epitomises the beauty of not just the city itself but also the surrounding landscape. You could spend hours just wandering around getting lost, exploring hidden corners of the city or relaxing in trendy cafes. In particular, I would recommend a walk along the banks of the river, passing through many small parks and peaceful spots to admire the view but always within reach of air-con, snacks and coffee when required!

In our case, we didn’t have all that long here unfortunately, just enough time to visit the main sights and continue on our journey, so Guilin is definitely on my list of places to return to someday.
