While most tourists take the Peak Tram up to the top, take some photos then return to the city, or at the most walk along the Peak Circle Trail, we decided that hiking all the way up would be more enjoyable, not to mention cheaper. I’ve taken the tram up before in the past, and although it is always listed as an unmissable Hong Kong experience, the queues are long, fares are expensive and I certainly wouldn’t bother doing it twice…

Starting from Aberdeen, we took the Hong Kong Trail section 2 and the Pok Fu Lam reservoir routes, eventually joining up with the Harlech-Lugard Peak Circle Trail. There are however loads of alternative routes depending on where you are starting from so have a look online or ask your hostel for advice if you are hoping to do a similar walk.
