Despite its rather glamorous name, this is essentially just a lovely walking route along the river. I started from RenMinJie (People’s Street, the main North-South street in Suzhou), walking westwards for around 20 minutes in order to reach the famous Pan Gate.

I particularly enjoyed this chance to get off the main roads (which tend to be a bit dusty in Suzhou) and wander along a more peaceful, paved path with views over the river. Occasional boats pass by, but otherwise there is very little traffic noise – making for a lovely afternoon stroll.

I also noticed many European-style street lights along the path – if I was staying for longer it would have been lovely to return again in the evening when it is all lit up!
