This lovely (albeit rather tacky) shopping street really comes alive at night, with bright lights illuminating the old-style buildings, boats floating along the river, and even an impressive dance performance. It was, however, absolutely packed – this seems to be the place in Nanjing to come and enjoy local snacks, celebrate Chinese culture and buy tourist tat…

All along the street, there are plenty of small restaurants too, as well as more food-hall type places suspiciously reminiscent of the school canteen… I’m sure they have some awesome food though, it certainly smelt good!

My hostel was actually right next to all the action, so this was basically the best place to come for an evening snack. If you’re staying nearby, I’d say it’s worth a visit if you can deal with the crowds!
