Every walled city in China traditionally had drum and bell towers to sound the start and end of curfew each night. Unfortunately, the drum tower appeared to be closed, but I was able to have a look at the bell tower, which was incredibly small compared to others I’ve seen elsewhere in China!
This small pagoda-with-a-bell-inside is located in a lovely small park which has been well maintained and carefully arranged. There is a small pond with a lattice of bridges over the top, and rock features dotted among the greenery.
The whole area is very compact, surrounded by the bustling city – but it did make a nice break.
