This lovely park in the centre of Sofia makes a lovely place for a quite afternoon stroll. However, the main attraction is a huge Soviet Army monument at one end of the park.

This monument was built in 1954 to commemorate the liberation of Bulgaria. On top of the monument, a soldier stands between a man and a woman, holding a gun victoriously above his head. Around the base and on a couple of pedestals in front of the monument battle scenes are depicted.

It was really interesting to examine this monument and learn about an important part of Bulgarian history.
